Federated Architecture for Composed Infrastructure Services

The FACIS project Federation Architecture for Composition Infrastructure Services enhances the development of collaborative ecosystems by orchestrating innovative federated infrastructures and exemplary governance frameworks (e.g., Service Level Agreements). It achieves this through the development and application of Federation Architecture Patterns (FAPs), machine-readable Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and low-code technologies. The goals include the seamless integration of different providers, the harmonization of SLAs, and the accelerated adoption of digital services.

Alumet

Alumet is a novel framework designed to offer an extensible standard for energy measurement in a widerange of scenari-os. With Alumet, it becomes possible to build measure-made measurement tools without the need to redevelop everything from scratch. A generic pipeline enables the gathering, trans-formation and export of any type of measurement.
A plugin system allows to support new environments and new models without modifying the framework, thus making it ready for future innovations.

Open Resource Discovery

ORD is an open protocol for the decentralized publishing and discovery of application and service metadata. It provides a structured schema for metadata such as endpoints, capabilities, documentation links, and ownership details, ensuring that application resources like APIs, events, data products and AI agents can be discovered, understood, and integrated consistently across different systems and marketplaces.

Key Management System (KMS)

Key Management System developed in Rust, that provides key lifecycle management, high-performance encryption and signature oracles, and public key management.

Audio processing on cloud-edge

The component includes a suite of energy- resource- and data-efficient neural networks for audio/speech processing. The networks are designed to be cloud-edge native. Being flexible in their computational compute they can be deployed in a variety of nodes and can adjust to the operational conditions and available resources.

The component is under development as the project ends in 2029.

PoC (Proof-Of-Concepts)

Proof-of-Concept (PoC) activities demonstrate the practical viability of tools and solutions in the European cloud-edge ecosystem. They validate interoperability, collaboration, and real-world deployment across federated environments and multiple providers, ensuring that solutions are feasible, scalable, and effective across diverse domains and use cases. PoCs provide tangible evidence of cross-provider integration, operational reliability, and innovative functionality before broader adoption.

SLA (Service Level Agreements)

Framework for governing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) across federated ecosystems.
Instead of static, text-heavy documents, FACIS promotes machine-readable SLAs that can be enforced and monitored automatically.
This ensures quality of service, reliability, and compliance across multiple providers and borders.
It also reduces operational complexity by enabling automated SLA negotiation, violation detection, and adaptation in real time.
