Join the SPRIN-D Challenge – Innovating AI Training with Composite Learning

SPRIND LOGO

CISERO is excited to spotlight the SPRIN-D Challenge, a transformative initiative that calls on innovators to revolutionise the way AI models are trained across decentralized and heterogeneous systems. This challenge aims to democratise AI development, making it more accessible for SMEs, startups, and organizations across Germany and Europe.

Why the SPRIN-D Challenge Matters

AI is reshaping industries, from healthcare to automotive, but high-performance training is often limited to a few big players with access to costly centralized data centers. This creates a barrier for smaller organisations that lack the resources to compete in the AI space.

The solution? Composite Learning—a groundbreaking method combining distributed, decentralised, and federated learning—enables secure collaboration without relying on centralised data centers. By preserving data privacy and facilitating accessibility, Composite Learning has the potential to revolutionize AI development. However, to overcome current limitations, new frameworks and technologies are urgently needed.

Your Mission

Develop a robust, scalable framework for Composite Learning that can:

  • Enable AI training across diverse, decentralised systems.
  • Handle compatibility between heterogeneous hardware, from high-performance GPUs to CPUs of varying types and manufacturers.
  • Adapt dynamically to computing resource fluctuations and device outages.
  • Deliver a functional open-source core to support further development and commercialisation.

Challenge Details

The SPRIN-D Challenge spans 30 months across three competitive stages:

  • Stage 1: Up to 10 teams will be funded with up to €530,000 (plus VAT) each to develop initial solutions.
  • Stage 2: 7 teams will receive up to €520,000 (plus VAT) each to refine their frameworks.
  • Stage 3: Finalist teams will be awarded up to €600,000 (plus VAT) for implementation and scaling.

At each stage, a distinguished jury of experts will evaluate progress, ensuring the challenge focuses on truly transformative innovations.
