IPCEI-CIS Reference Architecture: Building a Unified Cloud-Edge Continuum for Europe

Europe’s digital future depends on building cohesive, secure, and interoperable infrastructure across the cloud-edge continuum—integrating AI, data services, and sustainability goals, while maintaining sovereignty and scalability. As part of the Important Project of Common European Interest on Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI-CIS), the IPCEI-CIS Reference Architecture (ICRA) provides a strategic framework for guiding the development and deployment of federated, multi-provider cloud-edge systems.
This webinar introduces the ICRA as a foundational tool to combat technological fragmentation and support alignment across sectors, member states, and providers. With its layered structure, cross-cutting domains, and emphasis on federation and interoperability, the ICRA enables scalable and secure digital ecosystems tailored to Europe’s diverse industrial and regulatory needs. Participants will explore the ICRA’s structure, use case integration plans, and learn how this evolving framework underpins Europe’s ambition to lead in cloud-edge infrastructure.
Co-developed with support from the CISERO project, which coordinates efforts among member states and industry stakeholders, the ICRA reflects a shared commitment to open innovation, sustainable development, and cross-border collaboration.
Key takeaways for participants:
- Understand the purpose and value of the ICRA within the EU’s digital strategy
- Explore its modular architecture, key layers, and federation principles
- Learn how CISERO supports the ICRA’s evolution through open collaboration
- Discover how to engage in the architecture’s technical implementation and pilot phases
- Learn how to position your organisation within the IPCEI-CIS ecosystem
- Contribute to shaping the next steps of the architecture's evolution
This session is particularly relevant for technology providers, industry stakeholders, public authorities, and researchers who aim to contribute to or benefit from Europe’s sovereign and interoperable cloud-edge future.
