From Infrastructure to Data: Exploring Interoperability Across Architectural Layers in European Cloud Initiatives

As Europe continues to strengthen its digital sovereignty and build federated, trusted cloud infrastructures, interoperability has emerged as a key enabler for success.
This 2-hour online session will bring together stakeholders from IPCEI-CIS projects and the broader European cloud ecosystem to discuss the role of interoperability across infrastructure, orchestration/platform, and data layers.
Participants will engage in a structured and interactive conversation designed to surface practical insights, share real-world examples, and explore future collaboration opportunities that align with Europe's ambitions for a coherent and sustainable digital landscape.
Purpose & Scope
This webinar aims to:
- Clarify the concept of interoperability across these architectural layers: infrastructure, orchestration/platform, and data, highlighting how these layers interact to ensure seamless integration and data flow.
- Showcase key European initiatives addressing specific interoperability challenges at each layer, with a focus on 5G, edge computing, and cloud infrastructure.
- Explore synergies and dependencies across these layers to foster a coherent and efficient European cloud and edge ecosystem.
- Highlight concrete approaches from flagship projects.
- Foster cross-project dialogue to strengthen collaboration and drive forward the development of a sustainable, interoperable European cloud environment.
The focus will be on actionable interoperability solutions, touching on integration, standardisation, and collaboration challenges across the layers. The session will also pave the way for future partnerships and initiatives within the IPCEI-CIS framework.
Why Attend?
Participants will gain a multi-layered understanding of interoperability challenges and solutions across the infrastructure, orchestration/platform, and data domains within European cloud projects. They will have the opportunity to learn from leading EU initiatives working on integration and standardisation in areas such as 5G, edge computing, and telecom environments.
The session will highlight concrete approaches from flagship projects addressing real-world interoperability needs across different layers of the cloud stack. Attendees will explore how these initiatives collaborate to address common integration challenges and build on each other’s work, contributing to a more coherent and efficient European cloud and edge ecosystem.
By participating, individuals will not only contribute to shaping a more coordinated and future-proof European cloud infrastructure, but also connect with experts from research, industry, and the open-source community. This webinar offers a unique opportunity to join a growing network committed to building a unified, sustainable digital landscape for Europe.
