DIGITAL X Cologne 2026
DIGITAL X Cologne will take place on 8 September 2026 at Rheinauhafen in Cologne, bringing together business, political, and academic leaders around the themes of artificial intelligence, cloud, security, and connected infrastructure. Organised by Deutsche Telekom together with more than 90 partners — including Microsoft, SAP, Dell Technologies, Google, Palo Alto Networks, and Equinix — the event combines a stage programme of keynotes and panels with over 100 hands-on masterclasses across Security, Cloud, AI, IoT, UCC, and Connectivity tracks. Confirmed speakers include North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister President Hendrik Wüst, Deutsche Telekom CEO Timotheus Höttges, and philosopher Richard David Precht, reflecting the event's positioning as a meeting point between digital policy, enterprise technology, and broader societal debate about Europe's technological direction.
For the IPCEI-CIS community, DIGITAL X is a useful gauge of how sovereign cloud and AI are landing with a major European telecom operator and its enterprise ecosystem. Sessions such as "Digitale Souveränität made in Nordrhein-Westfalen" and masterclasses on data sovereignty as an AI enabler ("Datensouveränität als KI-Booster") speak directly to the digital sovereignty agenda underpinning IPCEI-CIS, while the event's broader mix of AI, cloud, and connectivity content offers a snapshot of enterprise and public-sector priorities in one of Europe's largest digital economies. It's a chance to see sovereignty and federated-infrastructure themes discussed by industry and government voices outside the EU project bubble.
Deutsche Telekom is both the event's organiser/initiator and one of IPCEI-CIS's direct participants, working on sovereign edge-cloud infrastructure. Earlier this year at MWC 2026, Deutsche Telekom joined Orange, Telefónica, TIM, and Vodafone in a live demonstration of the European Edge Continuum, a breakthrough achieved within the 8ra initiative and IPCEI-CIS. SAP, an IPCEI-CIS direct participant through its ApeiroRA project on next-generation cloud-edge infrastructure, appears at DIGITAL X Cologne as a Premiumpartner hosting the masterclass "KI im Mittelstand," which addresses how AI projects move from pilot to production.
DIGITAL X Cologne relevance to the CISERO community is as a monitoring and networking opportunity: worth tracking for how German industry and policymakers are framing digital sovereignty and AI in practice.
